The work in this series is technically non-representational, but to say that would be a disservice to the countless natural inspirations in the artist’s daily life. Each painting was created in a gestural, expressionistic style, yet references the highly influential Canadian landscape around her.
Imbued with intense raw emotion and quiet tranquillity, each painting was created with thick multilayered, heavily textured oils that took the artist several months to complete. Rarely using brushes, she prefers the physical act of moving, scraping and removing paint with palette knives. The paintings went through many lives or “seasons”, changing drastically during the process, depending where her inspiration took her.
Le travail de cette série est techniquement non-représentatif, mais dire cela serait rendre un mauvais service aux innombrables inspirations naturelles dans la vie quotidienne de l’artiste. Chaque peinture a été créée dans un style gestuel et expressionniste, tout en référant au paysage canadien très influent qui l’entoure. Imprégnées d’émotion brute intense et de tranquillité silencieuse, chaque peinture a été réalisée avec des huiles épaisses, multicouches et très texturées, ce qui a pris plusieurs mois à l’artiste pour les compléter. Utilisant rarement des pinceaux, elle préfère l’acte physique de bouger, gratter et retirer la peinture avec des couteaux à palette. Les peintures ont traversé de nombreuses vies ou “saisons”, changeant radicalement au cours du processus, selon là où son inspiration la menait.
